Sports and PE Premium

What is Warren Road Primary PE and Sports Premium?

The Premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their PE and sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise – from becoming healthier both mentally and physically to improved behaviour and better academic achievement. The funding is a ring-fenced grant for English primary schools to provide additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. Allocations to schools are determined by a formula based on pupil numbers.

We are delighted that the Department for Education has confirmed that the investment for the next academic year (2020-2021) is £320 million. The government’s commitment since 2013 has demonstrated the significance of Physical Education and School Sport.

Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said:

During these challenging times, it has become clearer to me than ever the importance of keeping active and how it benefits not just our physical health but also our ability to pay attention, our mood and our mental health too.

Every family will have had a different experience of the pandemic, and I know that many children will have missed time spent outdoors with their friends – that’s why it’s so important that ahead of a full return to school in September, schools get the certainty they need to prepare their PE and sports activities for next year

The WRPS sport's vision

At Warren Road Primary School, we aim to establish a sporting culture that enables and encourages all children to play and enjoy a wide range of sporting pursuits. We believe that it is essential for all children to have the opportunity to develop key knowledge, skills and understanding within a range of different areas as well as recognising the importance of enjoyment of an active healthy lifestyle. We also recognise the significance of competitive sport as to our pupils’ wider educational development and in preparing them for their secondary education and later life.

At Warren Road we aim to improve

1. Improve the quality of the school P.E. programme by:

  • Auditing staff to highlight subject-specific developmental areas
Deliver P.E. focused staff training through staff meetings and training days
  • Employ sports specialists to teach pupils and mentor staff
Investigate and explore good practise from other borough / outer-borough schools to further improve the quality of our P.E.curriculum

2. Establish a wide-ranging extra-curricular sports programme

3. Provide additional training and coaching for children within school teams to develop their skills as part of our gifted and talented offer

4. Enter teams into a wide range of borough festivals and competitions

5. Create inter-school sport competitions to provide further competitive opportunities

6. Ensure children are confident swimmers and that when they leave Warren Road, they can all swim 50 metres and use a range of different strokes as well as develop essential life-saving and first aid skills

7. Ensure children are aware of the benefits of Physical Education and how it contributes to their physical; emotional; personal; social; moral; cultural and spiritual well-being

8. Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the pupil entitlement
